Grisham wins three NUIC titles

Milledgeville junior has big day; Dixon boys tennis earns first win of season

Milledgeville's Miranda Grisham won three titles at the NUIC girls track meet Monday at River Ridge High School in Hanover.

Grisham won the long jump (15-7), 100 (13.62) and 400 (1:03.41) to help the Missiles finish fourth with 61 points.

Galena-East Dubuque-River Ridge cruised to the team title, scoring 116 points. West Carroll was second with 72, led by Kaylee Vos' win in the triple jump (32-10).

Polo-Forreston took fifth place with 58 points and got wins from Mykil Baker in the throws – 104-6 in the discus and 33-2 in the shot put – and the 1,600 relay team (4:22.39) of Ellen Cavanaugh, Katie Person, Alli Reeder and Hope Stapleton.

Girls soccer

Geneseo 8, Dixon 1: The Duchesses tied the Northern Illinois Big 12 match midway through the first half but couldn't sustain the momentum.

Katie Provo scored off an Erika Taylor assist in the 18th minute of the first half to tie the match at 1, but the Maple Leafs scored four goals in the final 19 minutes of the half.

Dixon (5-6-2) was tripled up in shots on goal.

Boys tennis

Dixon 3, Streator 2: The Dukes took two of three doubles matches to claim their first dual victory of the season at Streator. 

The No. 1 doubles team of Kurt Gale and Rumolo Lobo beat Race Melvin and Broc Dodge 6-4, 6-4. The No. 3 team of Thomas Clemens and Michael Barth won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. 

Matthew Kerr added a victory at No. 2 singles for Dixon (1-8, 1-7 NIB-12).
