Jace Anderson’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh secured a key 6-5 Big Northern West win for Rock Falls over Byron on Monday in Rock Falls.
Rock Falls entered the inning trailing 5-4 after Byron scored two off Austin Donoho in the top half.
Eddie Nelson (4-2) pitched a scoreless seventh to get the win, which puts the Rockets a game ahead of the Tigers in the BNC West race.
Streator 17, Dixon 6: The Dukes led 5-3 through four, but two big innings tipped the scales for the Bulldogs in a Northern Illinois Big 12 West game at Veterans Memorial Field.
With two outs, Colin Bundy hit a bases-clearing double, part of a six-run fifth for Streator (6-17, 3-9).
Owen Van Horn took the loss in relief of Cal Jarrett for Dixon (7-17, 3-9).
Newman 11, Bureau Valley 1, 5 inn.: Michael Ely and Colin McGinn each drove in three runs in Sterling.
Quincy Coomes (4-3) allowed only one hit, while striking out eight and walking two to get the win.
Morrison 10, Erie-Prophetstown 4: The Mustangs handed the Panthers their first Three River loss of the season in Prophetstown.
Danny Willis and Bill Lee Greul both had three RBIs for Morrison, which has a 12-2 conference record. Joey Brackemyer earned the win on the mound.
Owen McConnell and Carter Ames each drove in a run for Erie-Prophetstown (14-8, 10-1).
Rockford Lutheran 15, Oregon 6: The Crusaders scored 12 runs in the first three innings to pull away in Rockford.
Luke Ziegler had two hits and two RBIs for Oregon (7-12, 3-5 Big Northern West). Joey Rowe took the loss.
Milledgeville 5, Durand-Pecatonica 1: Blake Kappes allowed four hits and struck out seven in an NUIC East road win.
Kappes also had a double for Milledgevillle (8-8, 6-7 NUIC East).
Aquin 2, Forreston-Polo 1: Aquin’s Anthony Townsend edged Nick Ludwig in a pitchers’ duel in Freeport.
Both pitchers allowed five hits. Ludwig allowed two runs, but only one earned, while striking out three and walking one.
Townsend had four strikeouts and two walks.
Eastland splits in Pearl City: After Ty Hartman’s dominant outing in a 6-2 Game 1 victory, the Wolves rallied to three runs in the top of the seventh to take Game 2 7-6 in Pearl City.
Hartman struck out 14 in a complete-game win, allowing two unearned runs on five hits for Eastland (9-5, 5-3 NUIC West).
Lena-Winslow 12, West Carroll 10: The Thunder could not finish the rally after allowing the Panthers to score nine runs in the third inning in Thomson.
Shaun Magill drove in three runs for the Thunder.
