Carroll County Sheriff wins service award

MOUNT CARROLL – Carroll County Sheriff Jeffrey Doran today will be recognized as among the best in his field.

At 1 p.m. today at the Carroll County Courthouse, Doran will be awarded the 2013 Law Enforcement Award by the Illinois State Bar Association. He was nominated by the Carroll County Bar Association.

The award recognizes law officers for "conduct that promotes justice" and whose service to the public "brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system."

The award "is given sparingly to recognize those who truly excel in the field of law enforcement," the ISBA said in a news release.

Doran is vice president of the Northwest Illinois Major Case Squad Organization, where he oversees major case management in and around Northwest Illinois. He is an executive board member and past chairman of the Northwest Illinois Criminal Justice Commission, which provides training for law enforcement officers in five northwestern counties.

He is chairman of the Great River Outreach, which brings food and necessities to those in need. He is on the board and is past chairman of the Carroll County Substance Education Coalition; serves on the board and is past president of the Savanna Rotary; and is on the board of Sinnissippi Centers, which provides mental health and substance abuse services.
