Jean D. Kelsey

STERLING – Jean D. Kelsey, 88, of Sterling, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Jean was born Jan. 20, 1925, in Sterling, the daughter of John and Louise (Foulds) Hoffman. She married Roland Kelsey on May 28, 1948, in Sterling. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2005. Jean was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Sterling, Sterling American Legion Auxiliary, and Self Help Parents Association. She enjoyed quilting, swimming, doing crossword puzzles, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her four daughters, Ann Kelsey of Rock Falls, Karen Clayton of Sterling, Marcia (Robert) Walish of Miami, Ariz., and Pat Schmitt of Prophetstown; one sister, Susan (Harold) Stewart of North Dakota; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three brothers, Tom, Jackie, and Bobby.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday and the memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling, with the Rev. Patrick Pinion officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Self Help Enterprises-Riverview.
