Jane Weaver

DIXON – Jane Weaver, 75, of Dixon, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford. She was a guidance counselor at Dixon High School for 39 years, retiring in 2001.

Jane was born Aug. 13, 1937, at McDonough County Community Hospital in Macomb, to Kenneth and Evelyn (Ladd) Cook. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude) in music and a Master of Arts degree in guidance and counseling from Western Illinois University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. While attending WIU, she met Harold “Hal” Weaver. They married on June 12, 1960, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Macomb. After working for one year in Milledgeville, the Weavers moved to Dixon. 

In 1994, Jane received the prestigious “Those Who Excel” award from the Illinois State Board of Education. She also coached the Scholastic Bowl team at Dixon High School for many years. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Dixon Country Club for more than 40 years. She also belonged to the Dixon Woman’s Club and American Association of University Women. She was a member of the Dixon Public Library Board for an extended period of time. Since retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at KSB Hospital and being a member of the Phidian Art Club.

Survivors include her husband of Dixon; one nephew, Tim Keller of Table Grove; and one niece, Susan (Charles) Manthei, and a grandnephew, Nickolas Manthei, both of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Joanne Keller.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. May 25 and the funeral at 11 a.m. May 25 at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dixon, with the Rev. Lynn Bond, pastor, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.

Memorials have been established to the Dixon Public Schools Foundation and the Granny Rose Animal Shelter in Dixon.
