Business notebook: Cobblestone 51 opening in Dixon

DIXON – Cobblestone 51 likely will be open by Wednesday at 117 N. Galena Ave., the former Little Angelo’s site, owner Josh Burkhalter said.

The shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and will serve 51 flavors of ice cream, as well as yogurt, Italian ice, and fat-free and sugar-free products. Unlike Cobblestone Ice Cream and Deli in Sterling, it will not serve deli foods, said Burkhalter, 36.

It will have a drive-thru and seating area.

He will hire about 20 people, most of them part time, and if the shop succeeds, Burkhalter would like to open others in Rock Falls and DeKalb, he said.

Call 815-288-6666 for more information; will be up soon.

U.S. Bank plans grand opening

DIXON – U.S. Bank is hosting a grand opening Monday through Friday, after moving its branch from South Galena Avenue to 160 Keul Road.

Prizes such as an Apple iPad mini and $50 gift certificates to Baker Street, Dixon Paint, Fiesta Cancun, Grot Ltd. and Touch of Thai will be given away, and local and U.S. Bank officials will cut a ribbon at 10:45 a.m. Friday.

The lobby will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The drive-up lanes will open an hour earlier all 6 days.

Melissa Glessner is the branch manager. Call 815-288-3315 for more information.

Tempting tamales and salsas

STERLING – Mark’s Best wants to spice up your office.

The company, now in the small business incubator in Sterling, is offering free samples of its tamales and salsas at businesses within a 15-mile radius of Sterling that have 25 or fewer employees.

Owner Mark Earl’s goal is to establish a monthly delivery route with about 100 companies. He also intends to expand into the Quad Cities, he said.

Businesses interested in sampling his wares or getting on the delivery route are asked to call 866-422-4505. Go to for more information.

More expansion in Rochelle

ROCHELLE – Behr Iron & Metal, 521 N. Second St., will add 7 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee.

The recycling center is expanding into “a full-service, indoor, drive-through facility in the heart of Rochelle. It is our mission to operate environmentally sound, clean, and convenient recycling services,” said William J. Bremner, president and CEO at Behr.

Behr, which started in Rockford, operates 14 facilities in three states.

The Rochelle location buys, sells, and processes all kinds of scrap metal, as well as electronics. Go to or call 815-561-0211 for more information.
