Senior Cassidy Gillihan, 18, is one of Sterling High School’s May Students of the Month. She is the daughter of Scott and Michelle Gillihan of Sterling; her brothers are Canaan Gillihan, 16, a sophomore at Sterling High, and Cory Scott Gillihan, 26, of Dupo. The family has two dogs, Sasha, a Chow Chow, and Farley, a mutt, and a cat, Cleo.

Favorite class: Creative writing. It was a relaxing way to start off the day, getting to be creative ... You could just set out and do your own thing.

Top teacher: Dana Francis, creative writing. I felt like I actually learned a lot. Instead of just showing something on the board, he will actually talk to you about it. And he cares about you outside of class; he’s easy to talk to.

Extracurriculars: Volleyball, cheerleading and softball; band (flute) and drum line; National Honor Society, Student Council, Science Club, service learning and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

After graduation: I’m going to Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., to play softball and study psychology.

Best friend: Kaylee Jakauskiene. We’ve known each other since middle school, and even though she moved to Scotland this past year, we still keep in touch all the time.

Favorite musical group: Lady Antebellum.

Favorite actress: Emma Stone.

Favorite movie: “Les Miserables.”

Favorite TV show: “Glee.”

Hobbies: I don’t have spare time! I play with my dogs or hang out with friends. Other than that, I’m usually doing homework or playing a sport.

Favorite outdoor activity: Running and boating.

Favorite food: Mac ‘n’ cheese.

Favorite places to shop: Forever 21.

Favorite website: Facebook.

Biggest fear: Blood and sharp objects.

Pet peeve: When people don’t buckle their seat belts.

Haunts: The [softball] diamond at my house. I’m usually out there.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Friendly. I don’t think I have any enemies, and if I do, then I’m really sorry about that!

Personal trivia: It’s not really about me, but my brother married a girl with the same name. (He’s Cory, and she’s Cori.)

Dream job: I wish I could be a Broadway star. I can’t sing, but I love musicals.

Trading places: I’d like to trade with someone in a third-world country to put things in perspective. I’d like to do mission trips sometime, so I’d want to understand that on a good level.

Trading spaces: Ireland or Greece. Both look beautiful.

Read this: “The Hunger Games” series by Suzanne Collins. The author keeps you involved and makes you feel for the characters.

What would you do if you had $100,000? Pay for college.

What do you wish your high school offered? A place for cheerleaders to practice.

Advice for freshmen? Your friends are going to go through things, but you don’t have to go through the same things with them. Just be yourself.

Shout out to: Mr. Francis for being my favorite teacher and making me really enjoy writing.
