Get to know caregivers

Published: Saturday, May 11, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

DIXON – A series of programs to observe Nursing Home Week will start Sunday at Dixon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Members of the public can take part in the activities at 800 Division St.

The programs are meant to encourage residents, families and other close relatives to “get personal” with their caregivers. Sharing personal details helps the facility care team offer care targeted to an individual’s preferences.

This year’s theme is “Team Care: The Dixon Roundup.”

The events are:

■ Sunday: a presentation of roses, followed by a Mother’s Day tea and pastry, at 10 a.m.

■ Monday: a balloon launch at 10 a.m., and an open house at 2 p.m. Dixon Mayor Jim Burke will crown a king and queen during the open house.

■ Tuesday: impressionist Jerry Armstrong at 10 a.m.

■ Wednesday: entertainer Chip Messner at 10 a.m., and a scavenger hunt at 2 p.m.

■ Thursday: candy bar bingo at 10 a.m.

■ Friday: a car show at 2 p.m., and sundaes provided by Culver’s.

Call the center at 815-284-3393 for more information.
