Prep roundup: Sterling soccer scores sixth win

Dukes tennis falls short; Amboy track teams sweep Milledgeville

Sterling got goals from four
different players in a 4-2 nonconference girls soccer win over Genoa-Kingston at Genoa.

Allie Johnson, Carolina Ortiz and Rosa Sanchez scored first-half goals for Sterling (6-9-1), which built a 3-1 halftime edge. Kaitlyn Bauer scored the last goal.

Chelsey Asbury and Sydney McCaslin had assists.

Boys tennis

LaSalle-Peru 3, Dixon 2: Matthew
Kerr cruised in singles, and teammates Thomas Clemens and Cameron Hicks rolled in doubles, but the Dukes (0-6) lost a Northern Illinois Big 12 tilt in Dixon.

Kerr won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Clemens and Hicks won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. Dixon lost the other doubles matches in three sets.

Boys track & field

Amboy 91.5, Milledgeville 44.5: Cooper Nelson was part of four event wins, helping the Clippers
to a dual-meet win over the
Missiles at Floyd Daub Field. 

Nelson won both the 100 dash (11.29) and the 300 hurdles (43.27). He also teamed with Travis Westenfelt, Liam Ohlendorf and Jeffery Delong to win the 400 relay (46.43) and the 1,600 relay (3:46.73). 

The Missiles won three of the five field events, led by Devin Steen in the discus (99-1), Daniel Walker in the long jump (19-9 1/2) and Troy Litwiller in the triple jump (38-0).

Girls track & field

Amboy 72, Milledgeville 55: Autumn Smith won the discus (90-6) and shot put (33-0) to lead the Clippers at Milledgeville. 

On the track, Amboy won three of the four relay events, led by the 800 relay team of Sheila Browning, Monica Joerger, Meredith Stamberger and Kaitlyn Hildebrand that won in 2:02.76, nearly 3 seconds ahead of the Missiles. 

Peyton Sturtevant paved the way for the Missiles, winning both the 100 hurdles (16.99) and 300 hurdles (50.86). She was on the winning 1,600 relay team with Kim Johnson, Sarah Leif and Miranda Grisham. Grishman won the 100 (13.40) and the long jump (16-6).
