Observances planned Thursday in Sauk Valley

Thursday is National Day of Prayer, and several observances are scheduled in Sterling and Dixon.

n The annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast begins at 7 a.m. in First Church of the Nazarene, 411 13th Ave. in Sterling. A continental breakfast will be served, and donations will be taken.

The Rev. Mike Durham, a retired Army chaplain, will be the guest speaker. The program is sponsored by Community Clergy Association and Sterling Kiwanis Club.

n Dixon Area Christian Women will celebrate National Day of Prayer with a noon luncheon at the Holloway Center, 612 Highland Ave.

The guest speaker will be the Rev. Bernard Sehr, pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. The offering collected will benefit Meals on Wheels.

Tickets are $6 and are available by calling Josie at 815-284-7197, Beverley at 815-284-7533, or Hilda at 815-284-6156.

n That evening, a service will be held at 7 p.m. in the Dixon Family YMCA gym, 110 N. Galena Ave.

Several Dixon pastors will lead prayers, Dixon Fire Chief Tim Shipman will speak, and there will be live music.
