Never said he opposed check on background

As I read Del Wasso’s response [April 24] to my letter, my thoughts were, “Whoa.” Never once did I say I opposed universal background checks.

I did say there is a federal system already in place, and pointed out that here in Illinois, there is a firearm owner identification card. Never once did I mention the word “universal.”

Sir, you can sit on your far left bully pulpit and pass judgment and allude to my ignorance, and that may be true. I spent 20-plus years in the service of my country, and swore to defend and uphold the Constitution so that you can have your First Amendment right to say as you want. I’ll keep my Second.
