Cole’s homer ties it in 7th, Chandler wins it in 8th

Three Rivers Conference victory over Newman on Monday in Prophetstown

Kenneth Cole sent the game to extra innings with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh before Jordan Chandler’s game-winning two-run
single in the eighth.

Newman (6-11) led 4-1 after 5 1/2 innings before Erie-Prophetstown (12-7, 8-0) fought back. Colin McGinn had two hits and three RBIs for the Comets. Teammate Alex Buhler homered and drove in two.

Morrison 5, Fulton 0: Connor Duncan scattered six hits, and Danny Willis ripped a three-run home run as the Mustangs beat the rival Steamers in Morrison.

Willis finished a triple short of the cycle for Morrison (10-4, 8-2 Three Rivers) and also stole two bases. Alex Fischbach also drove in a run, and Duncan struck out eight and walked five in a complete-game shutout.

Colin Tichler had two hits, and Cody Huff doubled for Fulton (9-10, 5-2). Matt Dail went the distance, allowing five earned runs and six hits while walking two and striking out five.

Kewanee 12, Amboy 0, 5 inn.: The Clippers committed 10 errors in a lopsided Three Rivers Conference loss at Kewanee.

Dalton Nuding fired a three-hitter for the Boilermakers. Christopher Jones had two of the three hits for Amboy (10-12, 3-8).

Eastland 8, Stillman Valley 4: Ramsay Truckenmiller homered and drove in four runs to lead the Cougars past the Cardinals in the nonconference clash at Lanark.

Truckenmiller was 3-for-4, as was Devin Hartman. Marshall Fink, Ty Hartman, Nick Simpson and Austin Young also had RBIs for Eastland (7-3), while Zach Randecker allowed three runs over six innings for the win.

Dakota 5, Forreston-Polo 4: Five unearned runs in the first inning doomed the Cardinals in the NUIC East contest at Forreston.

Nick Ludwig pitched well for the Cardinals (8-6, 5-2), hurling a four-hit complete game. Teammate Ethan Groom was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

West Carroll 6, Galena 3: Josh Sullivan fired a three-hitter, and Shaun Magill went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Thunder topped the Pirates in Galena.

Marshall Benters, Trevor Jones and Tom Watson also had RBIs for West Carroll.

College baseball

Skyhawks split at Highland: Evan Davis had two hits and two RBIs, and Brandon Wierenga threw 5 2/3 strong innings as Sauk Valley Community College edged Highland 4-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Freeport.

Highland bounced back to take the second game 14-4 in five innings. J.J. Johnston also had two hits for Sauk in the opener, while teammate Cameron Copas added an RBI.
