OREGON – Oregon High School freshmen and sophomores recently undertook projects during state testing for junior class members.
Freshmen did community service projects around the area. Students read to Oregon Elementary School pupils, packaged sponges at the Northern Illinois Food Bank, moved furniture at the Rock River Center, and helped at the Village of Progress. OHS has been recognized by the Illinois Principals Association for community partnerships.
The sophomore class visited Illinois State University in Normal and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Students attended an information session conducted by admissions offices at each university.
After the large-group sessions, small groups of students took tours led by current university students. After the tours were completed, the high school and university students ate together to get a sense of what college dining is like.
