Rockets hang on in Peru

Warriors win twice at Lincoln tournament

The Rock Falls Rockets jumped on the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers early Friday, scoring all three of their runs in the top of the first in a 3-1 nonconference win in Peru.

Jordan Giddings smacked a two-run double, then scored on a Michaela Ward single and an overthrow for the Rockets (13-2). Ward (7-2) scattered four hits in the complete-game win, striking out five and walking one.

Brittany Zawacki took the loss for L-P, also striking out five and walking one, while allowing five hits.

Sterling wins twice on road: The Golden
Warriors beat Collinsville 15-4 and Lincoln 8-2 at the Lincoln Invite.

Sterling (10-1) scored eight runs in the first inning against Collinsville, as Stephanie Kester (9-1) picked up the win. Jenn Rahn had three hits and three RBIs, and Shannon Long added two hits and drove in three; both of them homered and doubled. Karlie Mellott and Priscilla Aponte each added two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors.

Against Lincoln, Erin Stroup had two RBIs as Sterling scored seven runs in the top of the eighth inning. Darien Bardoner, Rahn and Aponte each added RBIs, and Aponte picked up her first win of the season with four innings in relief of Kester.

Amboy 10, Fulton 2: Kelsie Thurman finished a home run short of the cycle, Kaitlyn Liebing doubled twice and drove in three runs, and the Clippers cruised to a Three Rivers road win.

Kaitlyn Appleman added two RBIs, and Brooke Lovgren had two hits and drove in a run for Amboy (8-5, 5-5). Lauren Akre (6-4) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings, and Cassey Doege gave up one hit in a scoreless inning of relief.

Chelsea Lesniewski singled, doubled, and drove in a run for the Steamers (4-4, 1-4), and Emma Wiemken homered. Lesniewski took the loss in the circle.

Oregon sweeps Lutheran: The Hawks dominated a Big Northern West doubleheader at Oregon Park West, beating Lutheran 15-3 and 17-7 in two five-inning games.

Emma Crandall allowed four hits to win the opener, while Sommer Rhea allowed six hits to win the nightcap.

Milledgeville 11, Aquin 2: Emily Bush struck out 15 without a walk in a complete game, and also had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs at the plate as the Missiles won an NUIC East game at home.

Courtney Swalve drove in two runs, and Allie Bush and Morgan Adolph each had two hits and an RBI for Milledgeville; Allie Bush also homered.

Emily Bush allowed two earned runs and six hits.

West Carroll swept on road: The Thunder dropped two NUIC West games in Pearl City, falling to the Wolves 8-3 and 6-2.
