Prep roundup: Duchesses go postal, beat Mendota

Published: Saturday, April 27, 2013 12:51 a.m. CDT

Turns out, if you hit the post enough, eventually it will help you out. Just ask the Dixon soccer team.

The Duchesses (4-5-1) hit the post repeatedly during the first half of a 2-1 nonconference victory over Mendota at A.C. Bowers Field. But the game was deadlocked at 1 at halftime.

Katie Provo scored midway through the first half, and the Trojans drew even with about 4 minutes left before the break.

The Duchesses found the iron kind 15 minutes into the second half. Provo beat two defenders and put a shot off the post, and senior defenseman Shelby Cruse was on the spot to convert the rebound.

Carly Hartle made five saves for Dixon.
