Baseball roundup: Dukes drop two on road

Warriors fall at home; Panthers, Cards win conference clashes

Kenneth Cole continued his solid campain on the mound for Erie-Prophetstown, spearheading a 4-2 victory over Kewanee on Friday at Ashford Field in Clinton, Iowa.

Brandon McCullough doubled and drove in two runs in a four-run second inning to lead the Panthers to a Three Rivers victory.

Cole (3-0) went the distance for E-P (11-6, 7-0), striking out five and walking two while allowing two earned runs and seven hits.

Dixon swept in Ottawa: The Dukes dropped a pair of NIB-12 West decisions on the road, falling to the Ottawa Pirates 12-0 and 12-1 in two five-inning games.

Dan Pultorak’s RBI in Game 2 accounted for the lone run, and Kelson Spinden and Brandon Jagitsch had doubles in the nightcap. Pultorak (3-3) and Ryan Dixon (1-3) took the losses on the mound for Dixon (5-14, 1-7).

Geneseo 4, Sterling 3: The Golden Warriors lost another close NIB-12 West game to the Maple Leafs at Gartner Park. They fell 1-0 to the Leafs on Thursday in Geneseo.

Forreston-Polo 11, Orangeville 1, 6 inn.: Ethan Groom struck out six and walked three in four no-hit innings, and the Cardinals used an eight-run third inning to cruise to a NUIC East road win.

Jordan Ludwig ripped two doubles and drove in three runs for Forreston-Polo (8-5, 5-1), and Andrew Beasley added a pair of singles and two RBIs.

Dakota 14, AFC 0, 5 inn.: Graye Freeman’s double and Troy Mairs’ single were the only two hits the Raiders could muster in a home loss to the NUIC East-leading Indians.

Freeman (1-1) took the loss for AFC (3-6, 1-5), but only one of the seven runs he allowed in 2 2/3 innings was earned.

Aquin 7, Milledgeville 2: Kameron DawTyne had the Missiles’ lone RBI in a NUIC East loss at home. Zach Herin took the loss.
