Learn steps Monday to fight identity thieves

CHICAGO – Staff from state Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka’s office will offer a free workshop on fighting identity theft from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Polo Public Library, 302 W. Mason St.

Among the topics will be the most common types of financial fraud, and how to avoid becoming a victim. Staff also will perform Check for Cash searches for attendees, to see whether they have any uncashed state checks to claim.
