ERIE – Lawrence D. Greth, 73, of Newton Township, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at his home. He was a teacher at Whiteside Area Career Center.

Lawrence was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Moline, the son of Riely Greth and Wilma Jean (Kerr) Greth. He married Altha May Nickerson on June 8, 1963. She died Feb. 9, 1988. He later married Nancy Hughes Allen on Oct. 26, 1996, in Waxhaw, N.C.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children, Douglas (Maureen) Greth and David (Marva) Greth, both of Erie; stepdaughter, Sue (Mark) Nobis of Sterling; sister, Kathleen “Susy” Bailey of Waterman; three grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

A luncheon will be at 1 p.m. May 19 at the Wesleyan Hall of Erie United Methodist Church, followed by a time of sharing. Private burial will be at Erie Cemetery. Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Erie is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Newton Township for a memorial to be established in his honor.
