PORT BYRON – Robert D. “Bob” Brondyke, 90, of Port Byron, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Robert was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Fulton, the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Vogel) Brondyke. He married Phyllis Maxwell Reiling on Jan. 11, 1975, at Port Byron Methodist Church. Robert worked as a farmer, truck driver, and equipment operator, retiring from CF Industries in 1987. He enjoyed his family, camping, and boating. Robert was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church in Port Byron.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; daughters and their spouses, Sharon (Ben) Marruffo of Rock Falls and Shirley Wierenga (John) Huber of Fulton; stepchildren; Carole (Tom) Coussens of Rapids City, Jim (Rita) Reiling of Colona, and Ray Reiling of Coal Valley; sisters, Irma (Dwight) Hoogheem of Fulton and Doris (Frank) Vandermyde and Marcia (Gerry) Meinsma, both of Morrison; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Darlene Brondyke in infancy and Lois Norman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Port Byron. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.

Memorials may be made to Fairfield United Methodist Church.
