Expert to teach saving techniques

MOUNT CARROLL – The Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies will have a workshop May 11.

“Preservation of Gravestones and Cemetery Monuments” will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, 406 W. State St.

Jon Appell, a gravestone expert, will teach basic resetting, cleaning, and maintenance of older gravestones and monuments.

The workshop is for anyone who is interested in learning more about gravestone preservation. There is no charge for Mount Carroll residents; nonresidents pay $35. All equipment will be provided for the class, as well as a list of suppliers for materials needed to do the work outside of class.
