Blair falls to 0-2 in Double-A ball

Rock Falls native Seth Blair suffered his second loss of the season for St. Louis Cardinals’
Double-A affiliate Springfield (Mo.) on Saturday.

The 2007 RFHS grad allowed six runs (four earned) and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking two in the Cards’ 6-2 loss to Arkansas.

Blair is now 0-2,
having allowed 16 runs
(14 earned) and 20 hits in 13 2/3 innings with
Springfield, with seven strikeouts and eight walks.

Blackhawks’
win streak snapped

Mikkel Boedker and David Schlemko scored in a shootout to lift the Phoenix Coyotes to a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday at the United Center.

Brent Seabrook had a pair of power-play goals for the Blackhawks, who saw their seven-game win streak snapped but notched a point in their 11th consecutive game. Patrick Kane scored the lone shootout goal for Chicago (34-5-5), and Corey Crawford made 29 saves through overtime.

The Hawks are five points ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins (73-68) in the race for the Presidents’ Trophy, awarded annually to the team that finishes the regular season with the most points. Both teams have four games remaining.

Djokovic ends Nadal’s Monaco reign

Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-6 on Sunday at the Monte Carlo Masters, snapping Nadal’s 8-year, 46-match winning streak at the claycourt event.

It’s the 14th Masters title and first in Monte Carlo for Djokovic, the top-ranked player in the world. He became the first player to defeat Nadal in three different finals on clay, having already beaten him in Madrid and Rome in 2011.

McDowell wins
Heritage in playoff

Graeme McDowell picked up his second career PGA Tour win Sunday, defeating fellow U.S. Open champ Webb Simpson with a par on the first playoff hole in Hilton Head, S.C.

McDowell was four shots back when the final round started, but closed with a 69 – one of just three players to break 70 on the day – after making just a single bogey. He two-putted for par from 15 feet on the extra hole, while Simpson missed a 10-foot par putt.
