Leatrice 'Babe' Janssen

STERLING – Leatrice “Babe” Janssen, 84, of Sterling, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Coventry Living Center in Sterling. 

Babe was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Sterling, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys Louise (Patterson) Shumaker. She enjoyed golfing, swimming, and traveling to Texas. Babe married Neil Janssen on Sept. 24, 1946, in Sterling. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2010.

Survivors include one daughter, Sheila (Ronald) Grigsby of Castle Rock, Colo.; one son, Mark (Susan) Janssen of Davenport, Iowa; one brother, C. Richard (Betty) Shumaker of Sterling; four grandchildren, Ryan (Amber) Grigsby, Stacy (Todd) Henry, Kyle Janssen, and Allison Janssen, and one great-granddaughter, Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Cremation rites have been accorded. McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory in Rock Falls is handling arrangements.
