MORRISON – The city of Morrison is looking at a budget in the black for next year, City Administrator Jim Wise said.

The City Council will consider the proposed 2013-14 budget at its meeting Monday. The public will have an opportunity to weigh in at a public hearing before the meeting.

“The budget will reflect a positive balance at the end of the fiscal year,” Wise said. “No services had to be reduced or eliminated, nor personnel hours reduced or people laid off.”

The proposed budget includes total combined revenues of almost $3 million, with general fund revenues of more than $1.875 million and water/sewer revenues of more than $610,000.

It also includes combined expenditures of more than $2 million, with general fund expenditures of $1.150 million and water/sewer expenditures of about $595,000.

The city saw an increase in revenue from income and sales taxes, and it should see gains from gaming revenue, Wise said. The city also will actively pursue grants next year, he said.

The City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the Whiteside County Board Room in the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center, 400 N. Cherry St. A public hearing on the proposed 2013-14 budget will precede the meeting at 6:45 p.m.
