School employee receives award

OREGON – Mike Lawton of the Oregon School District was honored April 12 at the 26th annual Illinois Directors of Student Activities Convention in Rosemont.

Lawton, Oregon activities director, received the Educational Leadership Award.

The award honors those who have implemented creative and innovative student activity programs that support academic achievement.

In the past 2 years since Lawton has held the position, several major changes have been implemented. Service learning is now a requirement for all activities and athletics. He implemented a proactive athletic tutoring program, and supported a school improvement goal to increase student participation.
