Let’s have ‘no carelessness’ on public funds

Published: Tuesday, April 23, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

After reading about the latest sad episode at City Hall, I was reading a review of a new biography of President Calvin Coolidge (Amity Shlaes, reviewed in Imprimis, February 2013).

A Coolidge quote leaped out at me, and I thought it should be made into a large sign and placed in City Hall (as well as any office drawing public funds – mine included).

His statement was: “We must have no carelessness in our dealings with public property or the expenditure of public money. Such a condition is characteristic of undeveloped people, or of a decadent generation.”
