ROCK FALLS – Maureen Ann Miller Danilson of Rock Falls passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Maureen was born Jan. 20, 1957, to Hugh and Elizabeth (Betty Waldschmidt) Miller at Community General Hospital in Sterling. She was the loving mother of Tyler Miller Danilson. He was her life’s greatest joy and accomplishment!
Maureen started her education at Mekeel School, a one-room country school in rural Harmon, and attended St. Andrew Grade School and Walnut Grade School. She was a 1975 graduate of Walnut High School. She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls.
Maureen was raised on a farm in rural Harmon. As a former 4-H member, she enjoyed exhibiting at local and national livestock shows. She could be found in the barn barefoot and carefree, enjoying life. She passed her passion for exhibiting livestock onto her son, Tyler. For many years, she traveled to Michigan to support him in his own successful livestock ventures with Uncle Matt and his family.
She formerly lived in Champaign; Blacksburg, Va.; Auburn, Ala.; and Sioux City, Iowa. She made her home in Rock Falls for the last 17 years in the former home of her maternal grandfather, Henry Waldschmidt.
She was a treasurer for the Mid-Continent Livestock Exposition and a clerk for the livestock judging contest at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky., for many years.
Maureen was an avid reader, and loved to spend time in her garden and help her parents with their flower beds. Her greatest joy was her son, Tyler. She enjoyed following her son and the Newman Comets football and basketball teams. She created many heirloom cross-stitch items that she shared with family and friends. She enjoyed taking photos of family events and documenting them.
She most recently was employed by Bob Propheter Construction LLC. She also previously had been a Longaberger baskets consultant, and worked at Medical Arts Center in Dixon.
She is survived by her beloved son, Tyler Miller Danilson; her parents, Hugh and Betty; siblings and spouses, Greg (Eileen) Miller of Fennimore, Wis., Karen (Donnie) Behrens of Harmon, Joan (Denny) Hermes of Dixon, Kathleen Miller of Wilmington, N.C., Pete (Jane) Miller of Harmon, Matt (Tara) Miller of Charlotte, Mich., Michele (Tony) Gillette of Sterling, Sheila (Ira Smith) Young of Dixon, Jennifer (Karl) Koehler of Sparland, and Veronica (Mike) Edwards of Sterling. The family circle includes 35 nieces and nephews, two of which were her special godchildren, Kane (Sarah) Gillette and Morgan Maureen Edwards; and 27 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Maureen was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and twin niece and nephew.
Visitation will from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls, with Monsignor Thomas Dzielak, pastor, and the Rev. Bruce Ludeke, concelebrating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.
Maureen was an inspiration to her son and all who knew her as she met this challenge with inspiring faith and determination.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to MTD Roundup Benefit for her son, Tyler. Maureen requested, if you have a shirt from the MTD Roundup Benefit, feel free to wear it to the visitation in her honor.
