Local libraries given thousands

Jesse White, secretary of state and state librarian, awarded more than $1 million in “Back to Books” grants.

The money will be used by 230 libraries to buy books, CDs, DVDs, and other educational materials. 

Oregon Community Unit School District 220 received $2,655; Dixon High School and Wysox Township Library in Milledgeville, both $3,500; Eastland Community Unit School District 308 in Lanark, $4,500; Bureau Valley Community School District 340 in Manlius, $4,552; and Bertolet Memorial Library in Leaf River, Mount Morris Public Library, and Rochelle Township High School District 212, all $5,000.

Awards are made possible with money from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services and state library funds.
