Late insurance lifts Warriors

Bats, Rippy save Sterling’s NIB-12 West road victory

Logan Rippy’s fellow Golden
Warriors gave him some
breathing room in Sterling’s 5-1 Northern Illinois Big 12 West
victory Tuesday in Streator.

Bryant Lilly’s RBI single built the lead to 3-1 for Sterling (6-7, 2-3), and Zach Rehmert followed with a two-run double. Rippy then worked his third inning to finish his second save of the season. He struck out five, walked one and allowed one hit in scoreless relief.

Kaleb Francque (1-1) worked the first four, allowing one unearned run and five hits while striking out four and walking two to get the win.

Colton Olson allowed nine hits in a complete-game loss for Streator (2-9, 0-4).

LaSalle-Peru 11, Dixon 1, 6 inn.: The Dukes scored in the top of the first, but couldn’t add to it in a NIB-12 West road game.

John Thomas (0-4) took the loss, issuing six walks and allowing five hits while striking out four in 3 2/3 innings. He did, however, triple and drive in the lone run for the Dukes (4-10, 1-4).

Austin Smith held Dixon to four hits, striking out eight and walking two, to get the complete-game victory. He also drove in four runs.

Rockford Christian 5, Oregon 2: Matt Murray went the distance in a losing effort at home.

Murray struck out two and walked none while allowing six hits. Joey Rowe went 3-for-4 with a stolen base for Oregon (2-8).

Erie-Prophetstown 3, Amboy 0: Kenneth Cole threw a three-hitter to outduel Tyson Powers in a Three Rivers game in Prophetstown.

Cole (3-0) struck out six and walked one in a complete-game win, while Zach Inskeep drove in two runs and Carter Ames added an RBI for the Panthers (9-4, 5-0).

Powers struck out 13. He allowed four hits and a walk for the Clippers (10-6, 3-4).

Fulton 10, Kewanee 3: The Steamers scored seven runs in the top of the second to
overcome a 2-0 deficit in a Three Rivers road game.

Cody Huff and Colin Tichler both had three hits for Fulton (4-7, 3-1), the latter driving in two runs and scoring twice. Matt Dail allowed two earned runs, striking out three and walking four, over
5 1/3 innings to improve to 2-1.

Forreston-Polo 11, Milledgeville 1, 5 inn.: The Cardinals used seven Missile walks to score 10 times in the third inning of an NUIC East game in Milledgeville.

Nick Ludwig made the free passes hurt with a three-run shot for Forreston-Polo (4-4, 3-3). Ethan Groom’s no-hit bid was broken up in the bottom of the fifth on a Jordan Harris single.

Harris worked two scoreless innings to start, but Harrison Jakobs issued six of the walks and was charged with seven runs in two-thirds of an inning, although they were all unearned.

Eastland 10, River Ridge 4: Ty Hartman and Marshall Fink had four RBIs each to lead the
Cougars to an NUIC West road win.

Chase Giedd (1-0) had two hits and drove in a run, and got the win on the mound. Hartman, whose brother Devin drove in a run, had three hits and pitched a perfect inning of relief. He came on in the seventh for reliever Matt Keppen, who replaced Giedd in the fourth.
