Bradley professor to speak at Whiteside Forum

MORRISON – The Whiteside Forum will present “Think Global, Act Local: Work and the World Economy” at 7:30 p.m. today at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison St.

Jannett Highfill, Ph.D., an economist, editor and poet, will be the keynote speaker.

Highfill is a published poet, editor of “Global Economy Journal,” president of the Missouri Valley Economics Association, and a professor in the Department of Economics at Bradley University, Peoria, specializing in international economics, international trade, and international monetary economics.

She will speak on “the economics of globalization and basic international comparisons.” A question-and-answer session will follow.

“We hear a lot about the lack of jobs, globalization, too-big-to-fail, debt, austerity and bailouts, but what does it all mean?” forum President Marc Adami said. “Come with your questions, and let Dr. Highfill be our guide in understanding how the world economy affects us all.”

The Whiteside Forum is a nonpartisan, nonprofit community group that sponsors presentations and discussions of issues that have an international dimension as well as local interest and importance.

Registration begins at 7 p.m.; the event is scheduled to finish by 9:30 p.m. Admission is free.
