Police seek information on vehicle burglaries

Published: Wednesday, April 17, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

DIXON – At least 14 unlocked vehicles were burglarized around 1 or 2 a.m. Tuesday on the north side of town, officer Aaron Simonton said Tuesday.

Thieves made off with items such as debit, credit and IDs and loose change, but no electronics were taken, Simonton said.

“It was whatever was lying out, whatever was quick for them to get a hold of,” he said.

None of the vehicles burglarized sustained damage, he said.

Nine were at Canterbury House Apartments in the 1500 block of Lowell Park Road; the others were in the 800 block of Fourth Avenue; the 300 blocks of Prospect Street, Ferris Street and Hubbell Drive; and the 100 block of North Court.

Police believe the burglaries are connected, and ask others who may have been victimized to report their incidents.

Anyone with information on the break-ins, or on any other suspicious activity or individuals in their neighborhoods or in the Canterbury complex, is asked to contact police at discoverdixon.org/police or 815-288-4411, or Crime Stoppers at 888-228-4488,

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
