Sauk Valley's Jalen Riley lets go of a 3-pointer during a Skyhawks' home victory Jan. 17. The sophomore guard was named to the NJCAA Division I All-America third team.

Jalen Riley cemented his status as a 1-year wonder for the Sauk Valley men’s basketball team.

Riley, a sophomore shooting guard from Racine, Wis., who transferred from the College of Lake County, was named to the NJCAA Division I All-America third team on Sunday.

“This is quite an honor for Jalen,” SVCC coach Russ Damhoff. “We had him playing point guard the first six games of the season, and when we switched him to two-guard, he really took off. He put us on his back in some games.”

The 6-foot Riley was also a first team all-conference and all-region player for Sauk Valley. He scored 560 points for the Skyhawks, after scoring 461 a year ago at Lake County. He is drawing interest from Division I and II schools, but is undecided where he will attend school next.

Riley is the fourth SVCC player to earn All-America honors, joining Kwan Waller (2008-09), Brian Piper (1994-95) and Todd Veltrop (1993-94). They each received honorable mention notice.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
