James L. Seeberg
ASHTON – James Larry Seeberg, 80, of Ashton, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon.
He was born July 6, 1932, in Rockford, to Carl and Pauline (Pundt) Seeberg. After graduating from East High School in Rockford, he enlisted in the Air Force and served 4 years in the Korean War as a radio operator. He married Arlene Buman on Aug. 18, 1956, in Galena, and they were happily married for 56 years.
He served on the Ashton town board; the Ashton Fire Department for several years and 10 years as fire chief; St. John Lutheran Church Council; and 28 years on the Lee County Board, serving terms both as finance chairman and county board chairman. He also served 9 years as financial chairman on the Northwest Illinois Criminal Justice Commission. He retired from Prudential Insurance Co. in 1989 after 23 years of service.
Jim always will be remembered for his humor and wit, often referring to himself as sweet, nice, and lovable. He loved community involvement and service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene of Ashton; daughters, Cynthia (Dan) Torrisi of Belvidere and Wendy Seeberg of Amboy; his two precious grandchildren, Emily (Matt) Williams of Forreston and Alexandra Torrisi of Belvidere; one sister, Marcia Fick of Addison; brother-in-law, Ronald Wicks of Camarillo, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews whose company he greatly enjoyed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori, in infancy; and his sister, Pat.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home in Ashton. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Ashton, with the Rev. Jonathon Black officiating. Interment will be at Ashton Cemetery.
