Helen Elizabeth Doran

SCHERTZ, Texas – Helen Elizabeth Doran, 63, of Schertz, Texas, passed away peacefully Friday, April 12, 2013, after a short illness.

She was born Jan. 17, 1950, in Dixon, to Eugene and Charlotte (Beede) Doran. She was the loved sister of Laura (Doran) Butterfield and Gary Linn (Doran) Smith. Helen attended school in Dixon, graduating from Dixon High School in 1968. She received an associate degree from Sauk Valley Junior College. Upon graduation she moved to Boston, where she worked for Christian Science Church Center for more than 35 years. While working, she continued to take classes at Northeastern University.

Helen had many interests. While in Boston, she took lessons in ballroom dancing and figure skating. She loved to travel, visiting Europe, the Caribbean, and Mexico. She was an avid reader, and spent much time researching topics on her computer. Helen was a great lover of animals and cared for many pets over the years. She never turned a stray away from her door. She loved volunteering at Schertz Animal Shelter. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by Laura and Dean Butterfield and their son, Noah, of Cibolo, Texas; and Gary Linn and Ken Smith of Aiken, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
