This newspaper recently had an editorial cartoon depicting school children, wearing flack vests and helmets, marching into an armored personnel carrier.
Standing guard was a matronly teacher with a rifle and an 1880s six-gun on her hip. She was backed up by the lunch lady and the janitor.
This is the liberal left’s depiction of the NRA’s idea for protecting our children at school.
The recently passed legislation in some of our states and the legislation presented in Congress by people like Dianne Feinstein do nothing to protect our children. They do not address mental health issues or fund security upgrades to our schools.
They admit that a person bent on creating as much carnage as possible will not be stopped by this proposed legislation.
Instead, these people choose to disarm law-abiding citizens while they keep their body guards and their own firearms. Sen. Feinstein, by her own admittance, owns a handgun and has a carry permit.
The only plan that has been presented that will actually stop or limit the attacks on our children is the plan proposed by the NRA. The NRA has offered to train teachers and school staff for free. An individual with a weapon is the only tool that can provide instant protection in case of an attack.
While the school is waiting for law enforcement, how many children can a madman kill in the 2 to 6 minutes it takes for police to get to the school and effect an interdiction?
I believe that the school board should decide how best to protect our schools. Only they can look at all of the variables and options. They can then make an informed decision based on knowledge and input from law enforcement and without the interference of state or federal bureaucrats.
