Grateful for assistance in time of need

Every day, I meet people who are unemployed or have lost hope in their everyday lives. I’m telling you there is hope, and people are there able to help you in your current situation.

I lost my job because of illness and medical problems. I had savings but it doesn’t take long until your resources are depleted. It was hard for me to ask for help. I had a college education and never thought I’d be in this position. You never know when circumstances in your life change and you’ll need assistance.

All the people I contacted treated me with dignity and respect. They’re a great bunch of people, and I want to publicly thank them for all they’ve done for me. They’re available to you, also.

First, I’d like to thank Dixon Township: Doug, Karen, and Deb. You can apply for the general assistance program and get help with your rent, house payment, and utilities. You volunteer 30 hours for the assistance and have to do a job search to 10 places in 14 days.

Second, thank you to Marty and Randall Bartelt of Dixon Council of Churches and the Lee County Salvation Army. They try to help or point you to the person you need to contact.

Third, thank you to Carol and Deb of Tri-County Opportunities Council for their guidance and direction. Carol helps with the LINK Program, and Deb helps with LIHEAP.

Fourth, thank you to Colleen at the KSB Financial Assistance Program. KSB Medical Group and KSB Hospital have the finest doctors, nurses and support staff you’d ever need.

Last, thank you to Greg and Nancy from St. Patrick Catholic Church’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul, for helping me on several occasions.

You do have hope. I’m a Christian, and God does care about what you’re going through. He will provide if we are faithful to him.
