Voters correct to reject tax

Published: Saturday, April 13, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

Again the people have rejected the proposed increase in sales tax. Most people I talk to, including myself, voted against the increase.

One of the selling points to the increased sales tax was that it “may,” “could,” “should,” or “might” reduce property taxes. Notice the terminology did not include “will” reduce property taxes.

The majority of the population knows that once a tax is in place, it never goes away, and very rarely gets reduced.

A guarantee that property taxes will be reduced would go a long way toward getting the increased sales tax approved.
