Senior Dominic Schantz, 18, is one of Sterling High School’s March Students of the Month. He is the son of Glen and Nina Schantz of Sterling; his brother is Ben Schantz, 26, a graduate student at Indiana University.

Favorite class: English 101 and 103, through Sauk Valley Community College. It’s all about more college-level work and getting me ready for the next level.

Top teacher: Emily Johnson, English. She teaches us the dos and don’ts of writing a paper and makes sure ... you’re up to par for college.

After graduation: I’m going to Sauk Valley Community College for 2 years, then I’ll transfer to Northern Illinois University and major in accounting.

Paycheck: I’m a hard-lines associate – so I handle electronics, auto, anything that requires heavy lifting – at Kmart in Sterling. I like it. It brings in the paycheck, which is nice.

Best friends: Skyler and Jamison De La Fuente and Tyler Shaw. They’re just the people I always hang out with, crack jokes with. We met in high school and are just good friends.

Favorite musical artist: Macklemore.

Favorite movie: “The Godfather.”

Favorite TV show: “NCIS.”

Hobbies: Hanging out with my friends, playing Xbox. Collecting Jordan shoes, too.

Favorite game: Badminton.

Favorite food: Anything Italian.

Favorite place to shop: Finish Line.

Where do you spend time online? Facebook.

Biggest fear: Heights.

Pet peeve: Not keeping your word.

What kind of music makes your skin crawl? Death metal.

Haunts: Walmart. We’re always walking around there aimlessly. When you’re in a small town and there’s nothing to do, you go to Walmart and pick up a foam sword and battle your friends in the aisle.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Awesome. I just am, really. At least, I think I am.

Secret twin: I don’t really have one, but people call me ‘Dom,’ and they relate that to Vin Diesel’s character in “The Fast and the Furious.”

Personal trivia: I can be outgoing. I come off really shy, really shy. But I can be talkative.

Dream job: CEO of a big corporation. I’d want to know what it’s like to be the head of a company.

Trading places: Donald Trump. Who wouldn’t love being rich?

Trading spaces: Italy. That’s where my mom’s side of the family came from.

Read this: “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. It’s an interesting book, kind of a prophecy of what’s happening today, that we’re all too attached to [electronics] and don’t have enough human interaction.

What would you do if you had $100,000? I’d definitely put it toward college student loans, then after that, invest, invest, invest.

What do you wish your high school offered? A film history class.

What’s a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier? Don’t take being a freshman for granted. You might be the low man on the totem pole, but once you get to the top, it’s stressful ... Enjoy your days as a high school student. It’s not going to get any easier.

Shout out to: My grandfather, Joe Adami of Sterling.
