Karl Olsen

MACHESNEY PARK – Karl Olsen, 76, of Machesney Park, formerly of Harmon and Wood Dale, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013.

He was born March 7, 1937, in Janesville, Wis., to Andrew and Mamie (Lamack) Olsen. He was orphaned by the age of 7, and was raised by Frank and Zelma Hicks of Harmon. He was a star basketball player at Dixon High School, graduating in 1954. He married Judy Buckman, formerly of Dixon, on July 21, 1962.

Karl was a premium drywall taper, working on many custom homes in the Barrington area. He was an avid Green Bay Packer Backer. He loved playing cards, fishing, and tending his roses. He had a very kind heart, and he loved his Kubota (mini truck with a snowplow and dump bed). When he plowed snow, he not only plowed ours, but five neighbors’, too. He loved doing for others and giving flowers and gifts.

Karl is survived by his wife, Judy; brother, Kenneth (Judy) of Caledonia; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents; brother, Frank of Sterling; and sisters, Irene, Dalores, Lois, Verna, and Helen, all of California, and Viola of Wisconsin.

Memorial visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 11342 Main St., Roscoe.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite animal shelter.
