Ex-Bears player’s mayoral bid fails

ROMEOVILLE (AP) – Former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Steve McMichael has lost his bid to become mayor of the Chicago suburb of Romeoville.

With all precincts reporting, incumbent Mayor John Noak received nearly 61 percent of the vote and McMichael received about 39 percent of the vote.

McMichael moved to the village last year. He said he was prompted to run by his desire to help the district where his 4-year-old daughter will attend school and conversations he’s had with customers at his sports bar, Mongo McMichael’s.

It was his first time running for public office.

In a statement Tuesday, Noak says he was honored Romeoville voters put their trust in him for another four years.

McMichael hasn’t commented on the results.
