Annual sale to help beautify

Published: Saturday, April 20, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

POLO – The Polo Woman’s Garden Club will have plants available to the public April 27.

A wide variety of both sun and shade, freshly-dug and mature selections will be sold from 8 to 10 a.m. at 105 S. Division Ave.

The entrance to the sale is on the west side of the building off the alley. Signs will be posted.

Plant donations will be accepted and can be delivered from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at the sale site. They should be identified and marked as to whether they grow best in shade or sun.

Two garden gift baskets will be raffled. One will be on display at First State Bank, 211 S. Division Ave.; and the other at Blackhawk Area Credit Union, 201 E. Dixon St.

Tickets can be purchased at both sites and from club members. They are $1 each or $5 for six. Winning tickets will be drawn at the end of the sale.

The event takes place during Polo’s All Town Rummage Sales.

Proceeds typically are used to beautify the city, parks, school, and public library with plants and to purchase gardening education materials.

Club members – celebrating 85 years – support many school and community programs and local charities. For more information, call Jean Dawson at 815-946-3363.
