Softball: Adolph pitches, Bush slugs Milledgeville to sweep of Orangeville

Perhaps Emily Bush felt obligated to thank Morgan Adolph for giving the Milledgeville ace a break from pitching in a doubleheader sweep of Orangeville on Monday in Milledgeville.

Adolph worked all 15 innings of the twin bill. She also went 3-for-3 in the 3-2 Game 1 victory and 2-for-3 in the 2-0, eight-inning Game 2.

Bush, who along with her freshman sister Ally went 2-for-3 with a home run in the opener, smoked a 2-run shot in the top of the eighth inning of the nightcap.

Adolph racked up 16 strikeouts.

Newman 12, Kewanee 0, 5 inn.: Laura Turnroth struck out six batters to get the complete-game win and also had two hits, an RBI and a stolen base in a Three Rivers game in Kewanee.

Newman catcher Jaimie Hurd added three hits – two of them doubles – and drove in three runs. She also stole a base.

Riverdale 4, Erie-Prophetstown 0: The Rams scored three in the third, and Chloe Sullivan took care of the rest in the circle in a Three Rivers game in Prophetstown.

Steph Thulen had two of the Panthers’ three hits, all singles. Sullivan struck out 12, and Sadie Mosher went 4-for-4 and was a triple shy of the cycle for the Rams.

Eastland 10, Durand 0: Delanie Giedd had three hits to lead three Cougars with multiple knocks in a nonconference game in Lanark.

Ashley Napean got the win, moving both her record and the team’s to 1-2.

South Beloit 7, AFC 2: Marissa Sanford allowed five runs in as many innings, and the Raiders lost an NUIC East road game.

Alyx Miller and catcher Lauren Meurer had the RBIs for AFC.

College softball

Sauk wins one, ties another: After holding off Marshalltown for a 4-3 victory in Dixon, the Skyhawks settled for a 7-7 tie in eight innings in Game 2 of the doublehader.

Kiara Kaleel (7-3) struck out five and allowed three runs – one earned – in 5 1/3 innings to get the win in Game 1. Kelsey Hagen drove in two, then hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning of Game 2 to put Sauk (14-8-1) up 7-5.

After Marshalltown tied it, Cali Bartholomew worked the last two innings to preserve the tie.
