Powers commits to play at Augustana

Amboy senior Tyson Powers, who guided the Clippers to the third round of the Class 2A playoffs, announced he plans to play football at Augustana College in Rock Island.


Morrison’s Benson to compete on ESPNU

Morrison native and Northern Illinois graduate Michael Benson will compete in the ESPNU sports trivia show UNITE: The Schwab.

Benson’s appearance will air at 11 p.m. Wednesday.


Cubs’ rally stopped in home opener

The Chicago Cubs loaded the bases with one out, but the threat was stopped in a 7-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in the home opener at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs scored two runs with no outs recorded in the ninth. Dave Sappelt struck out and Starlin Castro flew out to the warning track in right to end the game.

Welington Castillo hit a two-run homer for the Cubs.

Cardinals implode in ninth, lose to Reds

The Cincinnati Reds scored nine runs in the top of the ninth to win 13-4 over the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Mitchell Boggs was tagged for seven runs – six earned – in relief.


Hall of Fame Class of 2013 announced

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced 12 new members will be inducted into its Hall of Fame in September, including Louisville coach Rick Pitino.

Other highlights are Knicks star Bernard King, nine-time All-Star Gary Payton and former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian.


Sharp set to return for Blackhawks

Blackhawks winger Patrick Sharp could be back in the lineup tonight in Minnesota. He’s missed 14 straight games with a left shoulder injury.
