Fulton’s Ethan Jones and Seth Sanderson combined on a no-hitter Friday, but the Morrison Mustangs still managed to beat the rival Steamers 1-0 in a wild nine-inning Three Rivers game in Fulton.
Alex Volckmann scored the lone run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth, Sanderson’s first pitch in relief of Jones.
In the bottom of the frame, Fulton’s Austin Manon doubled with one out, then went to third on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, Manon tried to score on a wild pitch by Joey Brackemyer. But Morrison catcher Tristan Houzenga chased down the ball and threw out Manon to end the game.
Jones struck out 12 without a walk, while Connor Duncan (4 IP) and Brackemyer (5 IP) combined on a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and eight walks for Morrison (3-0, 2-0).
Princeton 4, Dixon 0: Cal Jarrett and Ryan Dixon combined on a three-hitter, but the Tigers held the Dukes to two hits in Princeton.
Jarrett struck out seven and walked four in four innings, and Dixon added three Ks and one walk over the final two innings. Dixon and Nate Grocke had hits for the Dukes (2-5).
Amboy 7, Kewanee 6: The Clippers scored all seven runs in the second inning, then held on at home despite four Boilermaker runs over the final three innings.
Drew Fordham had a two-run single and Tyson Powers added an RBI base hit to highlight Amboy’s big inning.
Spencer Johnson (1-0) picked up the win for the Clippers (6-2, 3-0 Three Rivers), and Taylor Ikens notched his first save with five strikeouts in an inning and two-thirds.
Oregon 3, Winnebago 2, 8 inn.: Matt Murray went the distance, striking out six and walking two, as the Hawks won on the road.
Alex Cain had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored twice for Oregon (1-2, 1-1). Joey Rowe added two hits and scored a run, while Adam Bettner, Sawyer Reynolds and Tyler Blume had RBIs.
South Beloit 10, AFC 1: Troy Mairs had a pair of hits, including an RBI single in the top of the first, as the Raiders (0-3, 0-2 NUIC East) lost on the road.
Paul Rod (0-1) allowed three earned runs and five hits in four innings, with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Milledgeville 5, West Carroll 3: Blake Kappes went the distance for the Missiles in a road win.
Kappes allowed three runs, eight hits and three walks while striking out 11. Jordan Harris doubled twice and scored a run to pace the offense.
Nick Hughes doubled, singled and scored a run for the Thunder.
Marcos roll at Milledgeville: Max Barkalow won the 100 (11.66 seconds) and 200 (24.24), Brian Cavanaugh took the triple jump (39 feet) and high jump (5-10), and Polo-Forreston took top honors at a five-team meet in Milledgeville.
The Marcos had 147 points to beat Fulton (106), Milledgeville (73), Morrison (19) and AFC (4).
Futon’s Bryce Holesinger won the 110 hurdles (15.84) and 300 hurdles (42.55).
IVCC 6, Sauk Valley 3: The Skyhawks won a pair of singles matches and one of the three doubles matches in a road loss.
Granit Tefiku and Jovan Henderson won in singles play for Sauk (0-3), while Caleb Bradley and P.J. Ginn teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles.
