STERLING – Virginia JoAnne Erikson passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Sterling Pavilion, with loved ones by her side.
Virginia was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Peoria, to Raymond and Emma Davidson. She was the beloved wife of Orval Erikson. They farmed in Princeville, and later moved to Prophetstown, continuing their farming. After Orval’s death in 1973, Virginia moved to Peoria, and worked at Rohn Manufacturing in the business department. She later moved to Mesa, Ariz., and embraced an active retirement. Virginia moved back to Illinois in 2008. Virginia is fondly remembered for her zest for life and her love for her family.
She is survived by her four children, Craig (Terri) Erikson of Benton Harbor, Mich., Chris (Janis) Erikson of Sterling, Cindy (Bob) Sutton of Atlanta, Ill., and Candy Munck of Show Low, Ariz. Also surviving are her nine grandchildren, Scott (Kelley) Erikson, Jason (Julie) Erikson, John (Chelsea) Erikson, Tina (Scott) Anderson, Tara (Erik) Semenchuk, Trisha (Brad) Clemens, Tiffany (Zach) Hartzold, Chad (Sasha) Sutton, and Shawn Munck. Other survivors are her 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orval C. Erikson; a sister, Shirley (George) Byard; and her brother, Raymond (Catherine) Davidson Jr.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Prophetstown, with the Rev. Andy Ploenzke officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Fellowship will follow after the burial at the Chris Erikson residence, 3302 15th Ave., Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
