Karissa Dobson’s solo home run in the top of the ninth inning gave the Stillman Valley Cardinals a 3-2 Big Northern West victory over the Rock Falls Rockets on Thursday in Rock Falls.
Michaela Ward went the distance for Rock Falls (5-1, 0-1) in the loss, striking out three and walking one. Julie Dodd had two hits and an RBI.
Dobson had two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run double in the sixth. Payton Abbott struck out 14 for Stillman (1-0, 1-0).
Newman 6, Amboy 5: Madalyn Klein’s two-run single down the third-base line broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh and sent the Comets to a Three Rivers road win.
Jenna Stevens added two doubles and an RBI, and Jaimie Hurd doubled in a run for Newman (1-0, 1-0). Laura Turnroth struck out six and walked one to get the win.
Kaitlyn Appleman and Kaitlyn Liebing each had a single and double for Amboy (0-2, 0-1), which scored one in the second, three in the third and one in the bottom of the seventh.
Morrison 7, Bureau Valley 1: Chelsea Eads finished a double shy of the cycle and drove in four runs in the Fillies’ Three Rivers win at home.
Lauren Pannier, Shannon Finneran and Hannah Vanderlaan also had RBIs for Morrison (2-0, 1-0). Allie Wiersema struck out nine in six innings for the win.
Caitlyn Scott doubled and drove in the lone run for BV (0-1, 0-1).
Erie-Prophetstown 25, Kewanee 2, 5 inn.: The Panthers scored early and often as they romped past the Boilermakers in Three Rivers Conference play at Kewanee.
Jenna Forward and Savannah Mettler drove in five runs apiece for Erie-Prophetstown (4-0). Forward, Laykin Miner and Stephanie Thulen each had three hits among the Panthers’ 20.
Riverdale 6, Fulton 0: Kylie Kennedy and Velaye Weinert had two hits apiece, but that was all the offense the Steamers (0-1, 0-1) could muster in a Three Rivers road loss.
West Carroll 5, Eastland 3: Allison Thulen fired a two-hitter, and the Thunder (2-3, 2-0 NUIC West) rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Cougars in Lanark.
Thulen (2-1) allowed just one earned run despite walking seven. Teammate Ieshia Larson had three hits and an RBI. Ashley Nepean (0-2) went the distance for Eastland (0-2, 0-1).
AFC 12, South Beloit 8: Cassidy Koning doubled, tripled, drove in three runs and allowed just one earned run in a complete game to lead the Raiders to the NUIC East win in Ashton.
Lauren Meurer contributed three hits and two RBIs for AFC, which overcame a 7-2 deficit after 1˝ innings. Teammate Lea Koning had two hits.
Sauk splits at home: The Skyhawks beat Carl Sandburg 3-2 in the opener of an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader before falling 6-0 in the nightcap in Dixon.
Kiara Kaleel (4-3) struck out five and walked one in a six-hitter in Game 1, and Kelsey Hagan doubled and drove in a run. Kaitlin Mathey had three of Sauk’s four hits, and the Skyhawks (9-8, 2-4) answered Sandburg’s two runs in the top of the seventh with two in the bottom to win it.
Cali Batholomew (2-3) pitched into the seventh in Game 2, but only two of Sandburg’s six runs were earned as the Skyhawks committed five errors behind her.
