Musicians bring awards home from competition

WALNUT – Students from Bureau Valley North Music Department attended the Illinois Elementary School Association Solo and Ensemble Contest March 23.

The competition was at Kewanee Wethersfield High School. The students received 37 first ratings, 26 seconds, and three thirds. Judy Andersen was the accompanist for the students.

Perfect scores in solos went to Marissa Mungia on her drum set and Elijah Lind for his vocal.

Students receiving first ratings in solos were Jay Edlesfon, Benjamin Jackson, and Caje Peterson, drum set; Joshua Monier, Ellen Johnson, Nicole Stone, vocal; Ellen Johnson and Rhiannon Staker, alto sax.

Hunter Schoff, Bradley Sierens, Joe Geen, and Joshua Monier, trumpet; Jackson Hanson, snare drum; Katie Smith, Sydney Sweenie, Dana Macklin, Josie Lind, and Morgan Vick, clarinet.

Donald Rios, baritone; Jessica Linley, tenor saxophone; Jennifer Linley, bass clarinet; Nicole Stone and Emily Fordham, flute;

First ratings in duets went to: Rhiannon Staker and Kaitlin Mungia, saxophone; Jackson Hanson and Benjamin Jackson, snare drum; Danny Schoff and Elijah Lind, tuba; Rhiannon Staker and Lexi Ryan, and Hannah Atherton and Elijah Lind, vocals; Emily Fordham and Lexi Ryan, flute; Katie Bannick and Ellen Johnson, mixed instrument; and Jennifer and Jessica Linley, mixed woodwind.

Receiving first ratings in trios were: Caje Peterson, Jay Edlefson, and Marissa Mungia, snare drum; Nicole Stone. Savannah Jensen, and Courtney Hoagland, flute; and Dallas Hardy, Connor Johnson, and Memphis Fischer, trombone.

Students earning second ratings in vocal duets were Allysa Heidenreich and Courtney Hoagland, Madie McFadden and Abbey Johnson, and Ellen Johnson and Josie Lind.

Second ratings for double duet were given to AJ Hockings, Joshua Monier, and Elijah Lind; and Taylor Butler, Colbie Carl, Nataleigh Nugent, and Christen Hurley.

Second ratings in trios went to Rhiannon Staker, Stephanie Gripp, and Kaitlin Mungia, saxophone; and Hunter Schoff, Bradley Sierens, and Joshua Monier, trumpet.

A second rating went to the clarinet quintet of Josie Lind, Katie Smith, Dana Macklin, Sydney Sweenie, and Jennifer Linley.

Second rating solo winners were Abbey Johnson, Taylor Butler, Hannah Atherton, Josie Lind, Colbie Carl, Maddie McFadden, and Rhiannon Staker, all vocal.

Katie Bannick, trumpet; Lexi Jacobs, Lexi Ryan, and Courtney Hoagland, flute; Elijah Lind and Danny Schoff, tuba; and Madison Jackson, Stephanie Gripp, and Ian Carl, saxophone.

Students with third ratings were Savannah Jensen and Courtney Hoagland for flute duet and Kaitlin Mungia for saxophone solo.
