March Student of the Month Tanner Seidel

Senior Tanner Seidel, 18, is Rock Falls High School's March Student of the Month. He's a musician, and artist, and plans to become a high school history teacher.

Senior Tanner Seidel, 18, is Rock Falls High School’s March Student of the Month. He is the son of Craig and Ronda Seidel of Rock Falls; his twin brother is Hunter Seidel, and his sister is Tabitha Seidel, a student at Western Illinois University.

Favorite class: Advanced Placement art. It’s kind of like a free study, because it’s about producing art. I’m into graphic design.

Top teacher: Mark Johnson and Heather Shore, art. They’re very friendly. They’re not acting like they’re better than you. They’re on your level, you know?

Extracurriculars: Jazz band (guitar), Art Club, BLIND and National Honor Society. I have a band outside of school, too, called Better Tomorrow. We’re an alternative pop/punk band, and we just finished a CD this winter.

After graduation: I’ll do 2 years at Sauk Valley Community College, then transfer to Western Illinois University. I want to become a high school history teacher.

Paycheck: I work at Hardee’s in Rock Falls. I like it. The people there are very nice.

Best friends: My girlfriend, Ariel Wade, and the drummer in my band, Jake Noble. In both cases, we have a lot in common, and we can be down-to-earth and real with each other.

Favorite musical group: The Wonder Years.

Favorite actor: Ryan Gosling.

Favorite actress: Either Zooey Deschanel or Anne Hathaway.

Favorite TV show: “Southland.”

Hobbies: Playing guitar, art, riding my bike, disc golfing and Hacky Sack.

Favorite outdoor activity: Disc golf.

Favorite food: Eggplant Parmesan.

Where do you spend time online: YouTube or Facebook.

Biggest fear: Not doing something that lasts longer than my life, not leaving a legacy.

Pet peeve: People who are rude to other people.

What kind of music makes your skin crawl? Hip-hop/rap – not all of it, but a lot of the popular stuff.

Haunts: At school, just because a lot of my friends are here ... or Sinnissippi Park [in Sterling, where there’s a disc golf course] or any park, really, because there’s so much to do there.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Kind. I avoid being rude to people. I try to be nice to everyone, even if they aren’t nice to me.

Secret twin: I get told I look like Justin Timberlake when I have my head shaved.

Personal trivia: I do a lot more sporty things. A lot of people think I’m just into the arts.

Dream job: If I could make a living doing something, it would be performing music.

Trading places: With a famous musician, then I could live the musician lifestyle for a day.

Trading spaces: Sweden, because the landscapes are beautiful.

Read this: “11/22/63” by Stephen King. It’s about the JFK assassination. I enjoy history, and I like JFK – he’s one of my favorite presidents to learn about – and I like just the whole idea of creating a story around him but not about him.

What would you do if you had $100,000? I would buy a house, and a car, so I wouldn’t have to worry about those big purchases, then save the rest to spend wisely, whatever is left over.

What do you wish your high school offered? I wish we had a tennis team.

What advice do you have for freshmen? Don’t worry about what everybody else thinks, just worry about what’s best for you – not what everybody else thinks is cool.
