Vote against new sales tax

Published: Thursday, April 4, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

I find it interesting, as in subterfuge, when downloading the sample Whiteside County ballot, it contains a proposition for a new Whiteside County sales tax of 1 percent.

Why is it subterfuge?

I believe the proponents of this new tax purposely avoided the publicity associated with the same proposition in Dixon’s November election, which failed overwhelmingly.

This subterfuge is an attempt to keep the voter uninformed, and hence away from the polls.

Remember, this is a new tax! This new tax will never go away. This new tax will never be reduced. This new tax applies to all your purchases.

Don’t be fooled. We do pay sales tax on food, restaurant purchases, quick foods, household supplies, and repairs. The spending of these new revenues will have little to no oversight.

Are you rich enough to fund an ever-growing burden of government? I strongly encourage opponents of this new tax to vote no on a new tax on April 9.

Your failure to vote will aid those who wish to deceive the voters.

Download the sample ballot yourself, study it, and be a prepared voter. Vote no new tax!
