FOID cards are already law in Illinois

I just read Del Wasso’s brief lament on April 1 and would like to respond. I guess Del has had his head in the sand these past 40 or so years.

Here in Illinois, gun owners have had to have a FOID card. Oh, by the way, that stands for Firearms Owners Identification card, and I stress “identification” card. We cannot own, buy, trade or sell a gun without a FOID card.

Yep, Del, it’s an ID card with a picture and everything.

You also may not know this, but everyone who currently buys a firearm at a gun store is already subject to a background check, and here in Illinois, even “straw purchases” have to be recorded and technically abide by the mandated waiting periods.
