Eleanor E. ‘Betty’ Raymer

DIXON – Eleanor Elizabeth “Betty” Raymer, 91, of Dixon, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon. She managed the catalog department at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Peoria for more than 25 years before retiring.

Betty was born April 17, 1921, in Freeport, the daughter of Berend “Ben” Antone and Regina E. (Vaupel) Janssen. She was a devoted volunteer at the Reagan Boyhood Home and the Court Appointed Special Advocates office in Dixon. She was a member of Caring and Sharing in the Oregon area. Betty enjoyed water aerobics classes and the after-swim social group for many years.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Raymer of Dixon; one son, Michael “Mike” (Christine “Chris”) Raymer, three grandchildren, Scott (Deanna) Kaufman, John (Hollie) Raymer, and Ryan Raymer, and four great-grandchildren, Sidney Kaufman, Jimmy Kaufman, Eli Raymer, and Emmett Raymer, all of East Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Karl Janssen; and one sister, Maryana Cray.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday and the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with Jack Briggs, chaplain, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial has been established to Serenity Hospice & Home.
